Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Time and Recovery (STaR) Worker to join our mental health residential rehabilitation and reablement service. The STaR Worker will play a crucial role in supporting our service users to achieve their recovery goals and engage effectively with the community. This role is integral to our service user-led approach, promoting independence and recovery through personalised support. This role involves working closely with residents, healthcare professionals, and other support staff to create a safe and supportive living environment.
We’re currently hiring for both full-time and part-time positions. Please note that the full-time role involves 12-hour shifts and requires availability to work every other weekend.
Key Responsibilities:
Goal-Oriented Support:
- Work collaboratively with service users to identify and agree on recovery-focused goals.
- Develop and implement action plans to achieve these goals, regularly reviewing and adjusting as needed.
- Facilitate goal-related tasks, providing practical and emotional support to service users.
Community Engagement:
- Encourage and assist service users in engaging with community activities and resources.
- Foster relationships with local organizations and community groups to create opportunities for service user participation.
- Support service users in accessing education, employment, and social activities as part of their recovery journey.
Recovery Focused Approach:
- Promote a recovery-oriented environment, encouraging service users to take an active role in their own recovery process.
- Utilise recovery-focused interventions and tools to support service users in building skills and resilience.
- Advocate for service users’ needs and preferences within the service and the wider community.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care and support for residents.
Key Worker System:
- Act as a key worker for assigned service users, providing consistent and personalized support.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of service user progress, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
- Coordinate with other staff members and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to care.
Service User Led Approach:
- Empower service users to have a voice in their care and the running of the service.
- Involve service users in the planning, development, and evaluation of the service.
- Respect and promote the rights, choices, and independence of service users.
Care and support
- Providing personal care, if needed, supporting individuals with personal hygiene and continence support
- Supporting with medication management and encouraging skills to enable self-administration of medication
- Monitoring and managing medical conditions with support of other agencies
Other requirements:
- Work on a 2-week rolling rota shift pattern, ensuring continuous support and care for residents.
- Respond to crises and emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Promote a safe and inclusive environment, respecting the rights and dignity of all residents.
About You:
The successful candidate will have the following qualities:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant qualification in mental health, social care, or a related field.
- Knowledge of mental health conditions and best practices in mental health care.
- Strong understanding of recovery principles and person-led care.
- A good understanding of safeguarding
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to supporting individuals with mental health needs.
- At least 2 years-experience working in a mental health or social care setting, preferably within a residential service.
