Havencare is a forward-thinking and growing charity.  We have been making a difference for 35 years, changing the lives of people who have learning disabilities, autism, brain injuries, and other support needs. Our big aims include every person having a home that is right for them, and support for the life they choose.

At Havencare, first and foremost, we are looking for outstanding people who align with our values of Transparency, Quality and Engagement.

An understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS) and leading PBS in practice would be an advantage, although not essential because we can develop these skills and experience with the right person who has the attitude and aptitude to learn and deliver at this level.

You will work a spart of the team providing support to Mr R. It is important you have a good sense of humour and a positive outlook on life, and you will need to be willing to turn your hand to anything in your role supporting them to fulfil their wishes and aspirations.

The resident may need support with their learning opportunities. It is important that they are supported to develop their interests and identify how they would like to be actively involved in leading their support.

It is essential that you have a positive mind set and that you are prepared to work towards, a detailed understanding this individual and all aspects of their support needs.

About Mr R

Mr R has been supported in his flat for 3years now, he has an established team and is supported 1 to 1 from 1000 – 2300; Mr R is autistic and lives with an acquired brain injury, he sometimes has trouble understanding the do’s and don’ts of life, he can get information muddled up and this causes him to feel really anxious. Mr R needs skilled and timely emotional support to focus on his day ahead and get out & about to visit and explore various destinations, we are supporting him to consider different ways he can fill his week with things he enjoys doing, this currently involves going to a farm twice weekly where he enjoys turning his hand to various tasks from general repairs to herding sheep – Mr R has recently enjoyed a 5 day break away and is hoping to be able to do this again in the near future as he enjoyed himself far more than he anticipated.

Mr R is an avid Pirates fan with a season ticket, and attends as many matches as he can, it isn’t essential that his staff have a knowledge of rugby as he will take time to explain everything you ever needed to know and more. Mr R has a wicked sense of humour, and enjoys having a laugh and a joke, he enjoys watching all sports on TV and is a budding cook – he has all James Martin books and enjoys the opportunity to watch live shows when he is touring locally.

Mr R struggles living in a shared environment and is being supported to move out into his own flat which is something he feels he needs to do to be able to enjoy life more – Mr R is encouraged to talk to staff to explore what a new home looks like and what support he will need. Mr R knows he ideally want to remain local to Penzance and is seeking someone who will work closely with him, his family and team and the wider professional team around him to ensure this is as right as can be.

About the Role
